What to write about a machine that never have been said before? What to write about the Fujitsu Lifebook T2010? What to write to get your attention? That's my task in this article.

With that in mind I took the T2010 sent to me for this review by Alliance Technology Partners and started to run some tests.

Battery Life, the truth behind the 9 hours

I'm sure that anyone that have checked the specs of this machine have found that Fujitsu claims a extraordinary battery life of 9 hours for the 6 cells, 5800 mAh, 62.6 WHr battery and 11 hours for the 9-cell, 10.8V, 8700 mAh, 93.9 WHr. Are this numbers real? I have to confess that I really do not believe these numbers any more and more when this is what XP was reporting about the 6 cells battery:

Windows XP was reporting just 4 hours and 56 minutes in the 6 cell battery! But if I was not trusting in Fujitsu why I should trust in Microsoft? I copied a full DVD in Divx format to the T2010, installed VLC Video player, changed the battery settings to "Presentation" and started to watch a movie. 1 hour and 33 minutes later at the end of the movie this is what the power meter was reporting to me:

Forget from one minute about the total time remaining label. The T2010 went from 100% to 61% in 1:33 hours. What this means, this means that to reach 5% at this rate we would had to play a movie for 226 minutes or 3 hours and 45 minutes. So, playing movies with WiFi on and screen brightness at 100% the T2010 can work for more than 3 hours and 45 minutes. With brightness at 50% and just browsing the web that number could reach easily 4:30 hours but to reach the 9 hours claimed by Fujitsu would be almost impossible at normal working conditions. But... I have to admit that 4 hours and 30 minutes still a very impressive number.

Here is how the T2010 compares against the Samsung Q1 extended battery:

Performance

In this chapter I have to say that the T2010 is very well armed.

With a Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 1.2 GHz and a Intel 965 Graphic Chip with 382 MB of memory this machine made XP fly and of course will be fully capable of running Vista.

But let me show some numbers.

The above is Crystalmark score. That's twice the amount we usually see in any UMPC!

I also ran 3DMark 2001 and shot a short video of the test:

That's a decent score at 1280x800 resolution.

What I did not like

There is not too much that you wont like from this Tablet PC. The device is clearly designed for business so you only will see one tiny speaker in the right corner close to the keyboard. So the sound was not too loud and it was not too good.

The other thing I did not like, of course is price. A device with this configuration will have a price tag of 2300 dollars. But... you get the top of the line.

What I did like

First of all, I liked the Fujitsu Shock Sensor Utility. It's amazing to see how this tool tracks down all movement in your PC.

But what impressed me the most was the screen. Like the P1610, the T2010 has a Indoor/Outdoor display. The following picture was taking under the Florida Sun at noon. I place behind the T2010 a Samsung Q1 with the screen brightness at 100%. Check the difference:

The T2010 was fully viewable while in the Q1 screen I almost could not see anything. The following screen is a comparison between the too device in the shade:

Another point that I liked was the weight, it's just 3.3 pounds with the 6 cells battery installed. The battery is located at the bottom and that makes the device in my opinion easier to hold. The device worked warm but never hot so it was easier for me to hold it for long periods of time.

Conclusion

If it was not for the price I would say that this Tablet because of the battery life, the weight and the outdoor/indoor screen would be the perfect companion of any student. For business travelers would be very difficult to find something better.
